The thing about estim in the majority of palliative care situations is that patients are no longer caring for themselves independently - that's what it means really. So they depend on carers and health professionals to make almost all therapeutic choices for them. That being said, it can also be anticipated that people with nasty pains will be averse to putting TENS where it hurts. Another reason to have a carer or caring professional explain, manipulate and manage the outcomes for the patient.
